I don't think there's much difference between skillet and griddle burgers. I use a stand-alone griddle because I can do more at once. I like to do two ~1/4 pound patties + grilled buttered buns at the same time. And doing this for more than one burger at a time, the griddle just gives me more space than my largest skillet.

ETA: Between grilled and flat top, I prefer the diner style burgers at places like Company Burger and Camellia Grill. Smaller patties that can be cooked without much regard to temperature. Grilled burgers I like to be thicker and cooked to a medium-rare or medium. Grilled also gives you that distinctive "grilled taste." So for me they're two totally different burgers that I crave at different times.

Depends on the make up of the burger for me. There are some nice Angus parties that work well in a pinch for the kids and all of their buddies, straight from the freezer to the grill.

Homemade mix, nice fat content, give me a griddle & Stainless bowl or a skillet. Key is the gradou (sp?) adding to the flavor...
