Yeah I guess there are a lot of trees but I had the same problem when I lived on Millerville in those apartments. I've never had luck with table top antennas. Is it just time that I put on in the attic and stop being lazy?

The placement of any antenna is the key. Put it on the side of the house where there is a minimum of building materials through which the signal has to pass, preferably with just the roof sheathing and shingles between the antenna and outside. A bathroom or an air conditioning unit or several walls in the path will almost certainly give you bad results.
