1. How is it a contradiction?
2. In America, we also tend to use "@", which is why the home team is second.
Example:
Falcons vs. Jaguars
Falcons @ Saints
Falcons @ Bucs
Falcons vs. Rams
Falcons vs. Packers
Etc.
