IF you are talking about Charleston, SC and want to spend money stay on King Street, Francis Marion is cool (really old hotel, but great location). The Holiday Inn at Marion Square is cool too, it actually used to be The Citadel before it moved to its current location.

If you are on a a budget, check out the round Holiday Inn across the Ashley River, any of the hotels on Lockwood, or Mount Pleasant.
