Great thread. Lets talk frog fishing gear.

Types of water fished and:
Rod, reel, line, lure, tackle.

I mostly fish medium sized ponds from the bank and small reservoirs from a boat in TX . Most have heavy vegetation with some lilies and reeds sticking up.

I like a 7ft MH graphite rod with a fast action tip and a baitcaster reel with a high drag rating. Currently using a Kistler All purpose MH rod which has a fast action tip with a BPS Nitro reel.

I like to spool with power pro moss green 30lb braid for frogs. I always use a Palomar knot with braid.

I have many different types of frogs but have been doing well with

Stanley Ribbit frog with a Stanely weighted wedge hook lately.

However, it requires a near constant retrieve like a buzz bait. For a slower bite/ presentation I like the unwieghted wedge hook or hollow frog imitations like the Scum Frog and the Spro frogs.

If fishing for smallmouth or in areas with less vegetation or smaller fish, I will use the H&H frogs with a Blitz un weighted hooks or the mister twister keeper hooks. I will also step down to a M rod and use 14 to 20 lb mono.

My main frog rod is a 7'3" Heavy Duckett Ghost with a Quantum Smoke and 65 pound braid. I have another one I throw frogs on like ribbits and horny toads that is 7'3" MH, it's an older Allstar and only 50 pound braid on it. That's the smallest braid I use.

As far as hollow bodied frogs go, my favorite are Snag Proof Bobby's perfect frog and Strike King Sexy Frog. I do throw a Jr size Spro on the river though, because the bass are smaller. Only throw two colors: black and white. Black in muddy water and blue bird days. White in low light and cloudy days.

When fishing big water reservoirs and places I think I have a good chance at a big fish near heavy cover, I'm throwing 50# PP on a 7'6" MH/F (fishes like a Heavy) Veritas. Primarily throwing the KVD frog and white ribbits or junebug/chartreuse horny toads.

When fishing small rivers for spots and smallies, I'm throwing 30-40# PP on a 6'6" M/F Shimano Crucial and throwing either the H&H swamp frog or the baby ribbit. In this scenario, I usually have a 2' 20# fluoro leader tied on as well.

Use a 7'3" heavy ghost rod, 65lb power pro braid, strapped with a shimano citica. 90% of my frog fishing is with a hallow body frog for throwing in pads or heavy grass. Will also use a popping frog and slowly work it through the gaps in pads. Just depends on the day. Brand don't really matter to me, usually throw h2o for the price. Have decent hooks and a little modifying helps em walk

Guy on our trip last week caught a 9.6 on a ribbit, I could only imagine...
I throw mine on a Skeet Reese Carolina/ Swimbait 7'6, lots of backbone, with a good fast tip, 60lb spiderwire, and a citica 7:1.
I used to do the countdown, but now I've started to just pause, reel down like a worm bite, when you feel her, set it. So far, haven't missed a fish this way.

My pop is a die hard ribbit fan, but he misses tons of fish on in. I like he hollow bodies. I don't seem to miss nearly as many with those.

I use a 7'3 heavy action rod with 65lb braid. I always trim about an inch off one of the tails for better action..
