Do you know that Gregg Popovich has not been inducted into the Basketball HOF?

And yes he's eligible to be inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame. In fact, he's been eligible since 2001. I saw a thread about it on RealGM and that just blew my mind. Worse of all, a ton of men and women's college basketball coaches have been inducted into the Basketball HOF over the last 15 years. So next time anybody complains about the Pro Football or Baseball Hall of Fame, just remember that it took the Basketball Hall of Fame 15+ years to realize that Gregg Popovich is a HOF coach.

I'd imagine Popovich has some say in this.
ETA: Supposedly he has asked not to be inducted while he is still active.

How is that possible? Is being a pioneer of hack a Shaq equivalent to doing PEDs?

Interesting. If he asked not to be inducted while active that would make sense.

I can understand that.
Off the top of my head I think it's pretty much just college coaches that are inducted and still active, right? I'd imagine that would have a lot to do with recruiting because then that coach can walk into a high school kids house and say he is a HOF coach. In regards to why a college coach would want in while still being active.

When was the last time an active NBA coach was elected to the HOF?

That's what I'm saying, I can't thin of one. Going in to any HOF while still active is kind of weird to me anyways.

Nobody still active should be inducted into a HOF. In any sport. The purpose of the HOF is to celebrate the entire career. His career isn't over.

They always take a while for NBA coaches for some reason. I mean, Phil Jackson wasn't inducted until 2007.
Why not just wait until a coach retires to induct them in to the hall of fame?
