I am playing Moody Gardens on Friday. Never been down there. Is that course any good?
it's nothing spectacular, but it's a different style than woodlands courses ... decent shape ... windy and very open ...

Bring lots of balls. I haven't played since Tillman bought and renovated it from the city of Galveston, but prior to that there was water on 16/18 holes.

Story of the thread..............there is a shite LOAD of great golf in Houston.
People say Dallas is a better golf town than Houston.
I don't see it.

I'm not a golfer by any stretch, but I've played Lochinvar about 5 times. Used to work for an accounting firm that audited the club's financials.
Its pretty old school and the only all male club left in the state. The only non-white males you'll see are Clyde Drexler and the caddies dressed in white caddy suits sitting outside the caddy shack.
Some big bass in their ponds too.
They let us play the course on weekday afternoons. I rarely play, but played that sucker twice a year from age 23-25 getting drunk as a skunk. Most golf courses I go to I feel like they're looking at me like I'm going to frick this place up, but these guys just gave us their high-powered carts and said enjoy. You just grab your own beers out of their fridges/coolers every few holes.
Best course I've been on by far. My list is not impressive though. Wildcat, Labuarge, Hillcrest in Alvin, Beacon Lakes and Green Caye in Dickinson, Bear Creek...

Thanks for the advice. Will probably add an extra sleeve or two. Really looking forward to spending the weekend down there.

If you meant Deerwood, then yes. I like the Lake and Island courses but there are so many better courses than the 4 by the clubhouse. I wouldn't even think of driving to NE Houston with all the options where OP is staying.
I didn't say they were the best options in Houston. But the GC of Houston has already been mentioned multiple times, So why mention it again?
