You kind of expect coaches in the middle of job changes to parse words like that with the press. But I would hope they wouldn't do it with their teams.

I hear what you're saying...
But let's be realistic, do you really think he had any other choice.

How do you tell 100+ (18-22 year olds) "anything" and expect it to stay in the room. It's not possible!

Assuming Miles had an "interest" in the UM job all along (which you really can't fault the man for), how could he possibly have handled the situation any better.
I agree it's been a major distraction, but that's the nature of the business.

Would you rather him pull a Saban, Try and embarrass some reporter just trying to do their job, claim..."I will NOT be the next HC at Michigan"...and then take the job a week later?

If he's going be a stand up guy about leaving, than he will announce his resignation early next week. We need to get a new coach in here quickly to keep the recruits from looking elsewhere...I still think it's a 2 horse race between Tubby and Saban...

Good question. I would have told them "guys, you know how this stuff works. I can't say much but there is a very good possibility that this is the last game I will be coaching you. I love you guys"

I defintely wouldn't tell them that I have not been contacted if there had been contact through intermediaries. Especially if (as Herbstreit is reporting) I already have a big named DC lined to come with me to Michigan.
