Our place on the water is at the end of the line power wise and loses electricity fairly often and is one of the last places to get it back if there is damage to the system. The old owner owned a grocery store, so he had two industrial size freezers/fridges full of food. After losing the contents due to power outage, he installed a 15kw Generac. He also owned a HVAC company so he was also a Generac dealer. They hooked it up with an automatic on feature so the generator switches on by itself if we ever go 4 hours without power.

It's propane powered, and I've never had a problem with it in the 7 years we have had it. I think it's 9-10 yrs old total. I change the oil about once a year and run it every few months to keep the start battery topped off.
