Man, I don't see how some of y'all can jump back in the marriage boat so soon. I'm just getting to the point where I'm settling down a little and I still want to run for the fences every time commitment comes up.
That's actually quite normal. Professional literature generally suggests one year of recovery for every five years married. I was married for 27 years, been divorced for seven. I learn something from every relationship I have been in. Part of that journey is learning what you DON'T want.
I would not rule out marriage again in this life, but I am going to really get to know someone damned well before I enter into another "legally binding contract", if ever. Then again, there could just be something said for having a companion of the opposite sex and leaving it at that. It's not like I want more children. I love the two I have, but consider myself too old to start another family.
Then again, there's something to be said for freedom. There's no one to hold me back. Anything I don't accomplish is squarely on me. There are times I enjoy my solitude and I don't have to worry about the dog wanting half of everything I own if she decides to leave. That said, there is still something to be said for female companionship, but I am more discerning about their motives these days.
Funny thing about the dog. When my ex left, the dog paced the hall for almost six months looking for her. My ex dropped by about 18 months ago. The dog was acting like she wanted to run out and see her. I let the dog out. Dog comes within ten feet of my ex, literally growls and snarls at her, then turn around and went back into the house.
The look on my Ex's face????? frickING PRICELESS!!!
