What is the point of a play by play guy to wait for the play to happen to relay what is happening? I think that is probably one of the most important parts about being a PBP guy...actually calling the play as it happens. Must suck to be listening to the broadcast at the game and hear the call a few seconds later.

Well for starters we're not talking about a few seconds, it's a split second sacrifice in order to be accurate. And if you're sitting at the game you probably aren't listening to the broadcast to hear exactly how the play is unfolding, that's what your eyes are for.
