The only thing I've ever had success with at Chicot (for bass) is:
Jig n pig - black/blue or watermelon
Spro bronzeye frog
Spinnerbait - White/Chart or shiner color
Tx rig lizard weightless - black/blue or cotton candy.
As other have said, base of the cypress trees or any grass mat you can find. The Branch is a popular area to fish. There's also an area slightly north of the south launch with a bunch of trees smack in the middle of the lake. Had decent luck there.
Can't help you much with the crappie.
