Is a go pro 4 good for use as a general camera?

Was given a go pro 4 silver for Christmas but haven't really used it yet. Im doing some traveling this summer and would like to take photos of my travels that are at least decently better quality that what my iPhone 6 can give me. Would the gopro fit the bill, or should I sell it and invest towards a camera

All depends on what kind of pictures you want. I find that my iphone 6s plus along with my GoPro Hero 4 Silver fit the bill nicely. When I went to tunica hills, I used the Gopro for adveturous shots and videos and the iphone for just normal shots

The go pro is best for videos. It is a pain to take regular pictures with tbh. Also...you wouldn't want to drain the battery on it that way.
Just buy a waterproof point and shoot camera for your regular pics and save the go pro for video.
I bought this one last summer and love it.
