Since chase issues the southwest rewards credit card, would they let me switch my freedom to the southwest card while maintaining the same account? I couldn't find any info on Google.

I would imagine it would be preferable for Chase if you had all your credit cards under the same account. Don't know how it works exactly but I'd imagine if you had 5 credit cards they would all be under one account with Chase.

No. You can not downgrade cards. Freedom is in the Chase family and the Southwest card is a co-branded card.
Why would you want to do this? Apply for the Southwest card and you can get the signup bonus.

Mainly to see if my current chase points could be combined with the southwest sign up bonus points
And I fly southwest pretty much exclusively now so that's another reason

It can be combined. If I'm not mistaken, u can change ur chase reward points to southwest points also when it's time to redeem

There's a small chance I'm wrong, but he won't be able to do that with just the Freedom. He would need to have the Sapphire Preferred to be able to transfer to SW. In fact, the Freedom/CSP are one of the most popular card combos because of that reward program.

Correct. You can't transfer UR points to Southwest with a Freedom card.

Don't get the SW card
Get the sapphire preferred.
It basically earns points the exact same way and those points can be transferred to southwest or to any other program on their list
Signup bonus is the same as well

Get sw personal and business card with 50k signup bonus each
Spend 10k total, to get 110k RR points. Each card has a 3-5k min spend to hit the bonus rewards.
Score companion pass for this calendar year and next.
Do this asap to maximize your companion pass time frame.
Next year before each card renews, transfer available credit to your freedom card and a basic chase ink card without annual fees.
Google this for more info, great way to dip your toe into card points and churning. The credit card thread discussed this in the past too.
