I thought it was implied that he owned it. Why else would he renovate it?

If he planned on living in it for 5 years.... that doesn't sound like a purchased property. As mentioned in the original post.

Yes, but he said "apartment". Later stated that it was NY real estate. Here in the bayou apartments are rented.
