Expectations for a new LSU coach need to be lower

If memory serves, the last two times LSU went looking for a HFC, the ultimate hire came out of nowhere. Saban and Miles were not anyone's first, second, or third choices at the time.
In particular, I remember on this very board when Saban left, that many threw out names like Spurrier, Stoops, Tubberville, etc.
We LSU fans for some reason believe that any coach in the country would be crazy not to come here. Now we're seeing the same names and then some: Spurrier, Cowher (!), Tubberville, and all the up-and-coming coaches around the country.
It appears that LSU would be a desirable job given the homegrown talent, facilities, fan base, compensation, and proven ability to compete at the highest level.
But that doesn't mean coaches will be lining up to interview on Stadium Drive. A lot of this is driven by agents, contract posturing, and pure Internet rumor.
And you never know what's going to be on the other side when you lose a successful, proven HC.

many Tiger fans live in fantasy land, reality is a tough concept to grasp. I'm sure most coaches see LSU as a place with great facilities, great talent and passionate fans...but fans who will turn on you in a heartbeat and have unrealistic expectations.

Personally, I feel LSU will have a hard time finding a big name coach. If your a big name coach, you don't go to a school that is already on top, you go to a top school that has had a yr or two of losing and turn them around. What looks better, keeping a top school on top, or turning a losing school around and getting them back on top? I do feel it will be a little easier to attract candidates now vs when Saban left tho.

LSU fans always feel great Head Coaches will line up for an opeining in BR. Not exactly true and that is why we have Miles. There will be no new HC in BR in the next 3 years. No way in hell Michigan offers Miles. After that is settled there will be no more rumors about anyone interested in Les. Hold on cause it is going to rocky the rest of his stay in BR.

Miles is gone, you can book it. Look for the announcement to come after the seccg, assuming that WV or Mizzu win.

Fortunately you are wrong. They already have there man. There are at least 2 others that will take the job if the first falls through.
However, the first is not going to fall through. He actually initiated the contact last summer.
The wildcard in this is UM. They have to hire Miles. LSU is not going to fire him because of his record. So, if UM does not take him we will be stuck w/ underachieving teams for the forseeable future.

Let me guess, your three are either Spurrier, Saban, or Tubby?

Not me, but a couple that do come to mind are Brian Kelly and Petrino(I think he has had enough of Atlanta). That is just my feeling, who knows we may be stuck with "The Hat" and mediocrity for many years to come.
