Do the Ferry if you can. You'll get to drive to NW Washington, through part of the Yukon and Eastern Alaska. Ferry is about 4 days if you don't get off and visit towns along the way. But I'd recommend at least visiting Juneau. They have cabins if you're needing one.

What's the shortest amount of time you would recommend for a trip? Alaska seem overwhelmingly big and I don't want to rush through anything in an effort to "see it all" (which I realize is nearly impossible in a lifetime, much less a short vacation)
