What's the smallest boat you would want to fish Toledo? 16'? 18'?
Great question. Love Toledo. But huge waves come up mid-lake almost without notice.
Fished TB 1968 - 1988. Worst I encountered was about 1980. Waves peak to peak about 30 feet. Waves trough to peak at least 10 feet. South of Pendelton about 15 miles. Lake about 15 miles wide at that point. I had to travel about 10 miles in my boat to make it back to my landing.
Wind and waves came up suddenly. Surprise, surprise.
Boat was 1978 Challenger 15' with 150 HP Mercury. Made it back to landing by riding atop each wave at speed necessary to ride the wave. Took about 30 minutes in my mind (probably more) to complete "journey". My Dad at the landing was totally worried out of his mind.
Nothing else, Mother Nature wise, was even close to that unfolding event. Never experienced anything like that before or after.
So, a 15 foot boat under sufficient power can navigate my favorite lake under practically all circumstances. Of course a 32 foot saltwater tuna boat could deal with virtually all circumstances. But that's not what we're talking about.
A famous saying starts with - "It's not the size of the dog in the fight...".
JMHO. Just my 2 cents. Hope this helps.
