Im getting rid of SiriusXM and will use Pandora, other internet based stations and local radio. With that being said, Im going to purchase a new receiver to replace my stock receiver. Is HD radio worth a $50.00 upgrade to a receiver.

i have HD radio on my 7yo $100 pioneer headunit.

HD radio is a feature of a better receiver; you want one with a couple USB ports, bluetooth and of course HD radio. you might consider a 2din touchscreen at this point which can run apps for $200 more.

you're not talking just buying a $50 replacement receiver that only does HD? not worth it.

in nashville, its ok. i don't use it much because i have bluetooth and google music, but the way it works is NPR has 2 or 3 "alternate" stations on the same frequency (90.3 hd1, 90.3 hd2, 90.3 hd3) that your radio can tune. one is the normal NPR liberal news bullshite, one plays classical all day and one is BBC.

i have maybe 10-15 total; the popular stations have maybe 2 HD feeds and i honestly cant tell that much difference.

i've heard static (or is that compression noise?) on HD radio so its not 'cd quality crystal clear' like they claim.

The AVH-X3700BS is 50.00 more. I think it only adds HD.

Check the listing for HD in your area. In BR there are only a couple stations and they go in and out quite a bit when I listen to one. Not worth it IMO.
