Hoomanawanui is a UFA as well

It's not like either team was going to benefit past this season. This is an insignificant move either way

If the Saints want H-man back, they can get him back. Cheap.

Someone is going to overpay to get Hicks because that always happens for serviceable defensive linemen with potential. And it wasn't going to be the Saints.

That's wrong. Hooman's next contract, which I'm fairly certain will be with the Saints, will probably be for $1-$2M/yr. Hicks next contract will probably be about $4M/yr

When we've already decided that we are not going to give an inconsistent player an extension, let alone over pay for him, getting anything in trade value is a good move.

Now you can argue and blame several reasons for him being inconsistent here (coaching, skill, motivation, position) but one thing I can't be mad at is Payton/Loomis wanting to get rid of any bad eggs in the locker room. Perhaps they see a little of Jr. Galette in him and wanted to get rid of him now.

Also with Hicks in a new team & scheme other offenses did not have much to study on how exactly NE would use him, so now that they do we'll have to see how his production is next year, and then also factor that benefit/value with whatever he will be getting paid also. I realize the same argument could be made about Hooman, but my opinion is a solid blocking TE with decent hands will be more consistent, especially in our offense.
