I don't see why not. If you're fouled, you shouldn't be forced to take the shot when you think retaining possession is more advantageous.

Yeh it makes no sense. We are allowing teams to help themselves by FOULING. To prevent this, the rules of basketball have the "intention foul" which allows you to shoot and retain possession. However, refs are not calling intentional fouls when they are clearly intentional. So really, if the refs just followed the actual rule book it would be fine

Because you'll be fouled again a few tenths of a second later. And again. And again. And again. And again. And again.

You'd see a team intentionally foul all its players out just out of spite in a hot game. This idea just isn't realistic.
