What if you had other obligations to tend to right after work(ex: you have to pick up your child from daycare or pick up a SO from their job, etc).

I actually explained to her that I only tried to leave right at 5 on gym days because of the after work rush.

I was salary, so the only expectation, on paper) was that I be there from 8-5. Now we charged billable hours to our clients, and it could potentially improve our bonus to put in more time. However, at the time I was only using 30 min of an hour lunch, so I didn't feel the need to work unnecessarily late too.

As I became more experienced and had more responsibilities, I regularly worked 20-30 min past five.
