I'm from Baton Rouge, and unfortunately I always felt like Cajun people never really liked me very much. I lived in Lafayette for a few years, and worked in the oil field with a lot of Cajuns. I thought they were really funny people but I just never fit in with them at all.. Some were very nice, but just seemed insincere I guess..Like they knew I was an outsider. Probably because I look and act differently than them

This was essentially my experience as well. I worked there for a couple years. It's not that people were ever rude, they were typically very friendly. But everyone, my coworkers included, just didn't seem comfortable around me. Like I just didn't "get it" and didn't belong. It was weird.

And God forbid I bring up LSU sports around them. Or "accidentally" call their school "ULL."

Lafayette is what it is. It's a small city or large town with its local charms and food. The traffic does indeed suck if you don't know how to avoid the major roads, the women are beautiful, and there is a strong sense of Little Brother syndrome whenever BR or NOLA is brought up.

Lafayette folk have no complex or animosity about NOLA. In fact, I'd venture to say citizens of each city probably appreciate the other/have more in common than BR.
