Pros:
-Great Food
-Great night life
-Located centrally(ish) b/w Houston & New Orleans (depending on your job this could be a big one)
-If you work out, Reds gym is unbelievable
Cons:
-Traffic is awful
-Economy is strongly tied to oilfield, which makes times like now rough. When the oilfield is good, this becomes a plus
-Offshore trash (unfortunately this stereotype is real)

I spent a year in Lafayette and I think CptRusty summed it up well. I much preferred it over Baton Rouge. I wish I would have gotten to stay there longer.
