This is what I use and I've bought for family/friends. Market flooded with them because not compatible with Comcast any more, but works fine for Cox. Docsis 3.0 8x4

Is it best to update your wireless router, too? Mine is a Netgear about 7-8 years old.

I use this one myself. I've set it up for a handful of others. Probably the best value you'll find in the modem market.
