I had mine out several years ago. The surgery in most cases is done laparoscopically these days so it is no longer full abdominal surgery requiring extended hospitalization. I came home the same day as the surgery and had some painful muscle spasms for the next 24 hours but painkillers took care of that easily.

Without the regulating action of the gall bladder, bile flows directly into the small intestine when triggered by eating fatty foods. This can cause some problems with diarrhea immediately after eating. Just stay close to a bathroom when you go out to eat. Oddly that has gotten better over time and I no longer have a problem.

Yes, over time your bile duct from your liver expands and forms a sort of holding tank for the bile to slow its release into the intestines. It's obviously smaller than your gallbladder was but it does help.
