Much like Belichick, the man loathes dealing with the media. Do you really think he would leave Tuscaloosa where the media fears him and treats him like a demigod, to go to New York where absolutely every move he makes will be scrutinized on a national level? I suspect New York would be one the LAST places he would consider going.
Over the last 15 years he's been a coach in Baton Rouge, Miami and Tuscaloosa. BR and Tuscaloosa are small potatoes as far at the media is concerned and they walked/walk on eggshells around him. Miami is pretty much ambivalent to their pro sports team. Now all of a sudden he "craves" public frenzy? Your theory makes no sense.
