I saw Rat's post and thought you might like to see folks in Zimbabwe harvesting swarming termites to make a tasty roasted termite snack.

The termites swarm at night and are attracted to any light. This is at the main camp of the Hwange Game park. Not all that difficult to get a pan full if you have a broom to sweep them up.

They swarm overnight and lose their wings the next day and go back into the ground at that point.

Not bad roasted. Have a sweetish meaty flavor and a nice crunch when you chew down on them.

Maybe I have posted this before. If I have -sorry.

The wings are burned away when the roasting takes place in a metal pan over an open fire.

They are eaten using fingers to pick them up from the pan as they come off the fire. No sauce or seasoning needed.

Did I say Tasty? They are.

They do that in India too. In India, they take off the wings, put them in a wok with a little oil and some spices and roast them like that.

Just a taste.

Folks there have very little. A couple of US dollars will buy you a handful of roasted termites and then the $2.00 will buy them about anything they have in the grocer's store, which isn't much each day. Shelves were pretty bare most days.

Good people there. Don't deserve what they have in a government.

They love a termite over there. They like Mopane too. Which is a big Botswanan catapillar. They eat them like dried by the handful like we would a cheeto. .

I ate a couple termites in Belize. Tasted like a carrot ana some mint got together and made a bug. They were quite tasty for being so small.
