50 mile OTA Antenna Necessary for BR?

Looking at my location in BR all stations are within 10 miles. Lafayette stations are about 70 miles and Nola are 80.

Are there any benefits to the longer range antennas that I am not taking into account? Am I correct to assume it isn't worth the extra money for a 50 (or 35 for that matter) if I'm not within range? What about the amplified versions?

Thanks tech board!

It is more about the direction of the antenna than the "power".

If you really want to cut the cord properly and pick up off air signals from far away, you should look int a motorized antenna. It actually turns to pre programmed stops for stations.

You would have to have a large space in the attic to allow for 360 degree movement though.

Thanks. I'm not really looking for far away channels. Just want to be covered for local channels for sports. From reviews and suggestions, I'm considering the Mohu Leaf (omnidirectional). I just want to be sure I'm not paying extra for features or power that won't be useful for me considering my location.

You should be good with that.

I have an amplified leaf antenna in my attic that picks up all the BR stations with no problem. They're all within 10-12 miles. I wouldn't bother with New Orleans or Lafayette stations. The programming is 90% identical.

Except the sports coverage on the news.

I had this one (for a lot less $$$) in the attic and picked up all BR stations from Lafayette. I got the antenna from that electronics store on Cameron. Paid less than $50 but it was about 15 years ago.

Not worth it IMO and you'll be disappointed. Years ago I bought an expensive Phillips HD antenna that would not pick-up WAFB. Check out WAFB website, to pick up VHF channel 9 you need an antenna at least 30" long for the high band VHF signal. I broke out my $3.99 tailgate rabbit ears and it picked up WAFB plus 13 others channels just fine.
Check out this review.

Make sure your antenna is designed for UHF AND VHF. You'll need both.

Quick Question:
Is anyone else having trouble receiving Ch.2 (WBRZ)& Ch.9 (WAFB)??

I have not been able to pick up these 2 channels for couple of days now...

Located outside Denham.

I'm in the process of trying to cut the cord, and I can't find an antenna to pick up VHF stations either. I am north of Denham. Anyone?

I don't remember what brand mine is but it's similar to the "digital advantage" series from channel master
