The decision not to draft Lael Collins was made 224 times in a row by 32 people acting independently. Then those same 32 people suddenly reversed course and decided he was worth offering an undrafted free agent contract. What are the odds of that happening coincidentally? Pretty much zero.

Doesn't that happen with every undrafted free agent?

I'd be shocked if every team tried to sign the same undated free agent. I not sure of that the case with Lael

UDFAs typically get around a $5k signing bonus and no guaranteed contract. La'el received basically the same deal a 2nd or 3rd round pick typically gets

No, every undrafted player is not contacted by every team hoping to sign the undrafted player as a free agent. And not every undrafted player is graded as a 1st round pick. Several other players who were graded as 1st round picks had personal issues that caused them to drop in the draft, but none of them went completely undrafted. Most fell to the 2nd or 3rd rounds which still enabled them to sign contracts for multiples of what Collins received in compensation.

If Collins were to file suit and the case go to trial, how would any NFL team employee explain their pre-draft conversations with Collins versus other players they offered undrafted free agent contracts? They could not honestly say they had the same level of interest. Can you imagine the same story being told by 32 people, that they were scared off by suspected character issues with Collins, and then many of them would have to explain why they were willing to take chances on other players with known character issues? I don't think the NFL would be willing to let the case go to trial.
