That's awesome. I think it helps us that he would be a draft eligible sophomore. At least I think he would be.
ETA: Based on his birthday, Hess would be a draft eligible sophomore.
Here is the report on Kyle Weatherly from MLB.com:

Here is the report on Kyle Weatherly from MLB.com:
quote:
As a 150-pounder with a low-80s fastball and a straight-overhand delivery when he arrived at Grayson (Texas) CC in the fall of 2013, Weatherly was so raw that he redshirted in his first year of junior college. He has put on 45 pounds and developed better mechanics since, blossoming into one of the top juco pitching prospects in the 2016 Draft.
Moving from the bullpen in 2015 to the rotation this spring, Weatherly ranged from 88-95 mph with his fastball. He relies more heavily on a four-seamer with running life because he has trouble commanding a two-seamer with sink. His best secondary pitch is a slider that flashes plus but flattens out into a slurve too often, and he's making progress with a changeup now that he's using it more as a starter.
Weatherly's 6-foot-4 frame should create angle and plane on his pitches, but he mitigates his height with a drop-and-drive delivery. He'll get the opportunity to start in pro ball but some scouts believe he'll be better off as a reliever concentrating on his four-seamer and slider. He'll attend Louisiana State next year if he doesn't sign this summer.
