My brother's kid is 7 years old and was at his friend's house playing. He saw gifts under their Christmas tree with his friend's name on it, so he asked if Santa Claus came early. His friend's parents told him that Santa Claus doesn't exist and that the gifts were from them. Am I crazy for thinking that it should be the parents to tell their own children about Santa Claus' existence rather than someone else? Also how old do you tell a child Santa Claus doesn't exist?

Yeah, frick those parents, I would Grinch/Scrooge the frick out of them. Let the kids find out on their own. 9/10 is the age when the magic stops for kids.
Let them at least get that first decade of believing in magic and Santa.

Are you threatening to be mean to them for a short period of time before the true meaning of Christmas touches your heart, and then be super nice to them afterwards?

That's not much of a threat.
