Reports have been fluctuating. At first he was working for Sony and now it seems he is in talks to develop on their platform which is different. As usual, no one knows what Kojima is doing

I doubt that he would actually work for Sony.

No one really knows.

Most assume he was too expensive and Konami wants out of making AAA games

They're making too much of a killing in the pachinko business.

Why was he let go?
nothing concrete, but money/funding no doubt. its all in how MGSV rolled out.
Ground Zeros was released solely to fund the rest of V and buy kojima time. it really belonged attached to the main release, and was confusing as a pre-release (is it a demo?). V really has no context unless one played through Ground Zeros first. very strange to have it separated from the main release, and i cant imagine Kojima being 100% on-board with the decision.
pre-V release, all the stories started dropping about his divorce from konami. after playing through V, its obvious how much they screwed him (or how unreasonable and stubborn kojima was/is).
V is rushed. its second "half" feels broken and half finished, and the story's loose ends are only resolved by watching youtube vids of an unfinished final stage. this is possibly why there are so many similar grind missions. a chunk of V feels like it exists only to pad playthrough time, and my theory is that Kojima intended to drop/rework many of the missions but was refused the time.
this being the "final" MG game, the final piece to his nearly 30 year story, i would imagine anything other than konami bending over would feel like a slap in the face, and clearly konami couldnt give two shits about making games anymore.
the real shame in all this is that i thought V was an incredible game. it was just fun play. staying on story or just rambling around, it was a blast. but the whole game, especially the endgame, leaves you feeling a huge "what if," which is really disappointing.

So does this mean that Sony now has the rights to Castlevania, Metal Gear, and Silent Hill?

quote:Not at all. Konami still maintains control of those. (And Kojima has had almost nothing to do with Castlevania outside of some supposed consulting work for "Lords of Shadow.")

There's been an update to this. In short, he's starting his own production company and is talking with Sony about releasing its first game on their system. He's not working directly for them in any way.
