It’s true that the university, for whatever reason, offered provisional admission to some students with lower test scores and grades than Fisher. Five of those students were black or Latino. Forty-two were white. Neither Fisher nor Blum mentioned those 42 applicants in interviews. Nor did they acknowledge the 168 black and Latino students with grades as good as or better than Fisher’s who were also denied entry into the university that yeaR

I know you think this is some great gotcha, but it just shows the same shite you should always expect from salon.

When mentioning the poorer performing students that were admitted ahead of this girl they mention grades and test scores. However, when trying to claim there were better performing minorities that were also not admitted, salon only mentions grades.

If this girl went to high school in sugar land and these other applicants went to shitty high schools, grades are borderline irrelevant.

Was this girl a good candidate for this particular fight? Maybe not. There are probably many better. Would she have been admitted if she was black? More likely than being white. And that's a problem.

It actually may be no problem at all. In fact it may well benefit experience of attendees. But that's a different argument, and one UT did not engage as far as I can tell.
