disease
quote:
a disordered or incorrectly functioning organ, part, structure, or system of the bodyresulting from the effect of genetic ordevelopmental errors, infection, poisons, nutritional deficiency or imbalance, toxicity,or unfavorable environmental factors;illness; sickness; ailment.
In order to make this statement, the "incorrectly functioning organ" has to be the brain. Once you allow that, then every behavior that isn't good for you is a disease. By saying this, you're not making addiction more important, you're simply taking away the importance of the word disease.
Addiction is serious but it shouldn't be handled with these black and white talking points. It's more complicated than that.
