My father was an operator and on side did appliance repair work. After 20 yrs he went into working as a repairman making more money for himself doing extended service work until he retired.
I worked for a refinery in California and gave it up while in college to work for large law enforcement agency. Worked evening shift most my career and a lot happier. While doing that I worked with a few people to start a nursery/ lawnmower repair/ lumberyard / small hardware store on the side.
We also built homes and my last 10yrs I didn't work a lot of OT due to made more with business. When I was eligible for retirement I left to focus on opening a few more stores.
Never looked back but got my retirement after 20 yrs.
