The man was not a guest at the hotel. I think the thoughts of the shooting yesterday were on their mind. His actions coupled with the way his truck looked made him suspicious. They thought he may be have been running from the police and was attempting to hide.

I thought it was overkill but as the guest suggested, better safe than sorry.
