I think what really happened is that Alleva wanted to fire Miles and that his main, indeed only, focus was the size of the buyout. Once he got an indication that it could be raised by private sources, remember that that is the first thing that came out, he went full bore with leaks etc. I don't think that there was ever any chance of landing Jimbo, so the whole thing blew up in his face. Now he can't stay because he has definitely poisoned the well with Miles and what coach would want to come to work for him as AD?
