would it have killed us to try 5 - 10 slants, screens and curls, and a couple passes over the middle against auburn, w.Kentucky, E Michigan, S Carolina? we could've still run the ball plenty.

Agreed but there is a big diff between this and sacrificing losses just to practice passing. Coaches call plays that were successful during their practice week. CFB isn't like the nfl. The coach don't have enough on the field practice time ( only 20 hours a week) to implement new and creative plays from week to week. They watch film and practice already known plays that will supposedly attack that weakness. CFB is about executing the plays you do run. Those Oregon teams that were breaking offensive records ran the same play 50 % of the time.they just could execute it in their sleep.

Here is what I am seeing the problem to stem from-

The OC (Cam in this case) starts to try and call plays that Miles will approve more and more as the season goes on and does not focus as much on trying to actually attack the opponent. I think this happens because Miles is known to override plays all the time, so it seems to get worse as the season goes on since the OC not only has to think about the game, but tries to think what Miles is thinking.

Now, we know that ole Les can be a bit scatter brained during games, so this seems to be a recipe for disaster. It is hard enough trying to get in the opposing coaches heads, but there has to be something like this going on since the O just gets more and more predictable over the season (in addition to tons of tape with tendencies clear as day).

Miles needs to either take over the O fully (not what I want to see) or let his O-Coordinator coach and not try to impress Miles.
