You're missing the point: Houston is too spread out. You can have an hour plus commute while living inside the city limits because the city limits are enormous

I agree. The commute is hell. But I'll rather take no state taxes, no taxes while grocery shopping, cheaper and affordable housing any day compared to over priced housing, a higher murder rate, and the city not paying you what you deserve despite what degree you have. Yes it is a big city. But thats why the beltway and the toll road was invented. You can get there quicker. Also you have all the freedom in the world to leave home early. For example, I was living in NW Houston and I was driving all the way to Hobby everyday at 1 time. I left out earlier than usual. There is no way if I left out at normal time I would make it there on time.
