It only makes sense when used to cast skepticism upon the validity of GOOD news.

Consider this:

"You're all going to win a box of free chocolates, but take that with a bit of chocolate".

It would make more sense to be applied only to bad news - the salt making the thing more palatable.

Holy frick. I know we quit executing people in this country by raping them to death decades ago, but I kinda wish we would bring back the practice just to punish this kind of stupid thinking.
