If it is your first time in the area I would recommend camping at the Steele Creek campgrounds on the Buffalo River west of Jasper. Very pretty area with a lot of great sightseeing opportunities nearby.
Steel Creek Campground
Triple Falls is only a few miles away and a few hundred yard walk from the parking area
Hawksbill Crag is another easy hike nearby
Elk at Boxley Valley are only a few miles from the campground. I have never been this time of year and not seen 50 or more without stepping out of the vehicle. Jasper is about 15 miles east of the campground and a very neat little town with gas, groceries, etc. and I recommend the Ozark Café there. Also the Low Gap Café is a must stop if it is open over the holidays!
