Let's continue to run up the middle even though what OP said is true.
It's possible that Harris could have run more and have been effective, but he also was getting drilled and could have been hurt. THAT would have been a disaster for the rest of the season.
They tried a couple of passes to Fournette but the timing was off. The play calling was iffy, but it is what it is. The O line was getting dominated, so like announcers often say, you have to stick with the run to keep the pass rush honest. Harris was 6-19, he wasn't on. Incomplete on 1st down means almost certain pass on 2nd, and that line tees off on him. So, Fournette into line a bunch of times, made the play-action a little better.
Deep vs short passes- We weren't looking at any 10 play drives, I'm pretty sure the staff figured that out early. Best chance was longer passes, get yards in a chunk. It worked for a couple of drives. I think had they gone short instead, the likely result was more punts, or maybe more INTs.
