I'll never understand the phenomenon of adopting a college team as "your" team for which you have no natural connection to, either geographic, familial, or actual attendance there. It's bizarre. Fortunately, I just don't feel like I need to take such folks seriously, at all.

This. It's college football. I mean, the affiliation with the school or city/state is kind of the whole point of being a fan.
