Honestly this probably was the start. This was around the time those low IQ shows like ATH, PTI, First Take, Quite Frankly w/Stephen A Smith, etc. came around. Social Media being introduced a few years later was the death blow

Pretty much this. They moved into a spaceship studio, started having musical guests during the 5 pm Sportscenter, started their crappy original programming including PTI and ATH, and during the next couple of years lost quality talent like Rich Eisen and Dan Patrick. I remember their thing was emphasizing the "E" (entertainment) in ESPN.
