I typed up my usual essay response to Chavis threads but the thread was deleted before I could post.. lol

any ways, here's a little copy and paste action..

LSU had great defenses before Chavis and will after Chavis.

When we had our best offense in recent memory, Chavis had one of our worst defenses.. And being young is no excuse. We are super young now.

So sick of hearing about Chavis. He relied on tremendous talent. Chavis did not make LSU whatsoever.. he actually cost us games late, whereas this far our defense is getting crucial stops. I prefer what we have now. We are actually getting after the qb better, causing more turnovers, and absolutely shutting down the run. There is nothing worse than being ran all over.. Chavis right now has the 2nd to last run D in the entire SEC. No thank you. Our guys are in better position.

Most of all, Chavis was becoming a lazy recruiter. Without Chavis we have now fielded the best recruiting assembly of coaches.. and recruiting is almost everything in this league.. and our current #1 ranking is reflecting this. We are in the mix for the best of the best defensive recruits. Look at Bama's defense.. they field #1 classes every year.. LSU is about to go on the same run.

Steele has done a great job with a very young group. He virtually shuts out opponents early on the game while we mount a lead and teams play desperate to catch up.. Yeah they get some yards and tds later on once we are up but we are making the stops when needed. Unlike Chavis who would get run on, we would miss more tackles against the run.. and then he would make great 2nd half adjustments.. only to blow it on the final drive..

Just wait till Steele fields his recruits.. It's so much more refreshing.

Think about this for a moment.. Chavis left LSU for more offense, yet a&m is losing games.. while LSU has a far superior offense and winning games.. So here's another thought.. perhaps Chavis benefited from over-inflated stats vs inferior competition and he benefited from Les' control the clock and eat up time of possession.. Either way, Chavis relied on elite talent, and when he had a young team with a potent offense.. his defense was absolute CRAP. We had no business dropping 3 games in 2013. None.
