The article is correct in one regard, for some reason "cartoony" was a big fad in the late 90's and early 2000's.

Alabama introduced these monstrosities in 1998 that everyone hated, and they only lasted as the main logos for 4 years.

They were never officially retired, just almost entirely phased out, you can barely find merchandise with them.

Around that same time Auburn did this

Arkansas did this

I have no idea why this was such a craze, all of these logos were very unpopular compared to the stuff they replaced.

I think Florida started it with this in 95, which also happended to correspond with their reign at the top of college football

That same graphic design company must have convinced other SEC schools that using this type of logo was the way to go. LSU, Bama, AU, and even Tenn had a stupid cartoon logo:

Really, LSU was the school that stuck with their goofy cartoon logo the longest (besides UF oc course). Good job by the graphic design company making all of these schools think they needed to spend thousands to fix something that wasn't broken

Think how stupid it is for colleges to pay tons of money to a graphic design company when they have student artist, ON THEIR CAMPUS, who are just as talented, if not more. Colleges are great a pissing money away. Remember that next time someone belly-aches about poor higher education having budget cuts.
