I don't understand why boaters or anyone still use simple green. It causes corrosion.

Not sure where you got your information, but I don't believe you.

The shipyards all use it because it's safe to go into the water, Pop would buy the stuff in 55 gallon drums!

Meh, used correctly, it doesn't. Any cleaning product, not diluted properly, or used incorrectly (left on too long) can cause damage to finishes.
