Walkers have no brain function in terms of intelligence or thought, so in theory they should just keep walking into each other forever. Outside of that one zombie in the first season who straight up jumped the fence and ran

And the one in Atlanta (season 1) that picked up a rock (or brick?) to break a window.

I think it's understood well enough that seasons one and two had a different show runner who just had a different creative view of the walkers. This crappy guy on Youtube explains it well.

I don't think so. I remember discussing that, and most of us figured it was just in his hand and he wasn't "trying" to break the window with it.

At least that's what I remember about it...it's been a while since I've seen S1.

did not take the black and white scenes as homage because I have not read the comics (and do not know where the story is about to go), but I saw it as scenes from a past way of life

I think literally the only reason scenes were in black and white was to differentiate between timelines. B&W scenes were previous happenings/flashbacks/fill-ins, and color was current.

Sure, the comics may be in B&W, but I don't think it was any deeper than separating the times.
