Does it really need an explanation? The classics, modernism, post-modernism all have incredibly difficult concepts.
Philosophy and theology were one in the same for centuries.
Predicate logic can be difficult for many people to understand.
Read Kant's Critique of Pure Reason and get back to me. Or try reading the debates between Foucault and Chomsky. Philosophy is an incredible field of study

Well... I'd say the engineering curriculum is job training because if coming out of school, you can't use a certain software or perform a specific task... you're not getting hired.
BTW... LSU does an excellent job of preparing students to enter the engineering workforce in my experience.
